Hi Families,
In this short week we have seen many changes in the weather! Snowpants, hats, mitten, and coats have arrived! Keep practicing those zippers at home! Winter is coming....
Snowy Nature Walk
On Monday we went back to our woodlot to see how it had changed with the snow! It was windy but there was lots of snow! We made footprint tracks and hunted for leaves. They were all hiding under the snow.
Five-zies
Ms. Ancona taught us a new math game this week called 'Five-zies'. To play, you need 5 dice. You need to roll and roll and roll until all the dice have the same number.
Construction Site
Our Construction Site is open now and it is a lot of fun! We have tools, helmets, goggles, and work vests. It is important to be safe with all our tools but if we work together, we can make great things!
Big Buddy Visit
Big Buddies visited on Wednesday. We enjoyed reading together and then we showed them our classroom. The Big Buddies loved playing with us and our puzzles, painting materials, and building blocks.
Parent Visits!
We are very excited to have our Bluejay families come to visit tonight and tomorrow. Don't worry Chickadee families - your turn is coming soon!! We will see you in our classroom beginning December 2nd! Check your child's folder for a confirmation note.
This Blog is a space where the learning in our classroom can be celebrated! Our SK students (The Bluejays) will document their learning here by listing, planning, photographing, and writing to you about the highlights of our week, though the eyes of the students.

Our Week in Kindergarten, November 14 - 18
Hi Families,
Parent Interviews
We were excited to find out that our SK parents will be coming in to our classroom next Thursday and Friday after school. We are very proud of the learning we have done in our classroom and are excited for you to hear about it!
Don't Get the Red Dot!
This week our math game was 'Don't Get the Red Dot!'. Each student in the group must pick a card and tell the number they see. If you get the red dot, the game is over!
Olympic Long Jump
Today we had our second Kindergarten Olympic event. It was the long jump. Our 2 teams were Spain and France. We had to jump really far and not fall down!
Construction Site
We have started to make our Let's Pretend Centre into a Construction site! One of our Bluejays started the inquiry by creating a survey and asking the class if a construction site would be fun.
We have tools and helmets and goggles.
We want to know how they make different buildings and why construction workers take breaks?
Leaf Man
Our nature walk on Monday was another wonderful leaf hunt! We played hide and seek in leaf piles and created different leaf pictures inspired by the story 'The Leaf Man'.
This week, Ms. Ancona helped us to make Cloud Dough! We created a recipe and followed it. Our dough smells so nice and it feels soft.
Little Red Riding Hood
Ms. Cohen came to visit this week and read the story Little Red Riding Hood. Together, we talked about the characters and setting from the story. We also did a retell using puppets!

This Week in Kindergarten - November 7 - 11
This week, we had our second visit from our Big Kid buddies. The students from Mr. Stephen's class came down to visit and read with us. We really enjoy their visits since our buddies ask great questions and use funny voices in the stories!
Nature Walk
On Monday, we went on a nature walk to the forest. We went on a leaf hunt and had fun collecting leaves. We made big piles and threw them into the air too!
We found a mystery thing. We think it is a plant, but we are not sure what it is. Some people think it is popcorn, corn, or a beehive!
Planting
We were planting again this week. We really like it. We planted tulips and Spider plants. Our tulip bulbs went outside in the Kindergarten area in the dirt. We had lots of baby spider plants that grew roots. We planted them all in pots and gave them to different classes to take care of.
Remembrance Day
We did Poppy paintings for Remembrance Day. We read Todd Parr's book 'The Peace Book', and created our own peace is ... stories. We all got our own poppy on Remembrance Day.

Olympics
Some of the Bluejays are interested in learning about the Olympics. They made a list of sports to research and want to learn about each sport and how to play it. This week was the Javelin.
For the Javelin we need to run and then throw a big stick. Then, we measure how far we threw.

Our Week October 31 - November 4
Hi Families,
Here are some stories from our Halloween week!
We were working hard this morning writing stories about this week for our blog.
Monday was Halloween! We got to be in the Kindergarten parade and visit the other classes. We even got to go to the portables! The big kids said 'Hi' and we said 'Happy Halloween'! We were so excited on Halloween!
We had so much fun on our parade and trick or treating that night that we decided to pretend to Trick or treat in class! We made houses and candy bags. We went door to door, and even visited our neighbouring classes.
Pumpkin Painting and Faces
Using sponges, we each made our own pumpkin. Then we made faces using black paper. Some pumpkins are happy. Some are sad. Some have silly faces.
We really liked watching our friends perform the Five Little Pumpkin song at last week's assembly so this week we learned it too! We each made a Video of ourselves retelling the poem. These videos are in our Digital Portfolios!
Eyeball Math
Ms. Boag brought in pumpkin ten frames and eyeballs for our math centre. We sorted the eyes, made patterns, and made different number sets.
Bluejay LL visited the math centre and created a new game for us! It is called the Magic Number Game. Using 2 trays, she found out that some eyeballs will stick to the lid to make numbers!
Light Table Skeletons
After reading 'Skeleton Hiccups' we were inspired to make our own skeletons at the light table. It reminded us of X-ray machines.
Read Alouds from this week
Some other great reads from this week were 'The Gruffalo' and 'The Halloween Countdown'. We didn't think they were scary, even though one said 'BOO' at the end.
