Hi Families,
We had a short and eventful week. We had visitors, went to the forest, and learned a dance to perform at next week's Kinder Star Assembly. Here are some stories from the Bluejays.
Nature Walk
We had a nature walk this week and it was a scavenger hunt. We thought of ideas of what we wanted to look for and Ms. Boag made them into a list. We had to find a person, a baby, a bird, a bug, a baby plant, a footprint, an animal and a flower! You need to look on your list and find everything with a partner.
Number Wall
We made a number wall. We did the number 5, 10, and 6 for or wall. We are learning numbers in French, Tamil, Farsi, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Greek.
Adding is Fun!
We are learning to add numbers for math. Here is how we do it:
-We use numbers
-We make pictures
-We use chips or blocks and make sets
-We use our fingers
We have learned about special adding numbers called doubles. This is when you use 2 of the same numbers and add them together.
Domino Parking Lot
We have a new math game and it is called Domino Parking Lot. You flip over a domino and you look at the dots. You count and add the dots and if you need that number you put it on your parking lot.
Doctor's Office
We planned to make a Doctor's Office. Now we have made a Doctor's Office and a waiting room.
Fire Station
Yesterday we made a fire station. We started by making a plan and looking in books for ideas. We added helmets and costumes and made our puppet theatre into a fire truck with an alarm. Now we are moving around the classroom putting out fires!
Welcome to Kindergarten
Our new Chickadees are getting ready to come to Kindergarten and we are excited to see them. Last night, we showed the Chickadees what we learn about here at school. We can read. We can can draw pictures. We can do math games!
This Blog is a space where the learning in our classroom can be celebrated! Our SK students (The Bluejays) will document their learning here by listing, planning, photographing, and writing to you about the highlights of our week, though the eyes of the students.

Our Week in Kindergarten May 15 - 19
Hi Families,
We are feeling excited and energized as we head into the long weekend!
Here are some stories from our week.
Number Wall
Thanks to all of your help we are ready to begin our number wall. We painted the numbers from 0 to 10 and we are learning different ways to make each number. Our first number was 10. We figured out how to make 10 using symbols, pictures, fingers, and tally marks and we can say and write ten in English, Farsi, Mandarin, French, Cantonese, and Gujarati!
Water Table
With all our hot weather this week we decided to open up our water table. We are pouring, mixing, and measuring together. Our next idea is to find things that sink and things that float!
Savani's Garden and Tree
For our nature walk this week we visited the flower beds at front of the school. We are going to be planting a butterfly garden there for our friend Savani. We measure the space and decided where each plant should go. We are also hoping that we will get to plant a tree!
Art Day
On Thursday, we visited different Kindergarten classes for our annual Art Day. Each kid made something to enter in the Markham Fair! We made finger paintings, masks, vegetable prints, fabric pictures, posters, and paintings.

Our Week in Kindergarten - May 8 - 12
Hi Families,
We have been busy working on some surprises for this weekend. Here are some stories from our week!
Our tulip garden is growing strong now! We have many tulips to take care of now!
On Tuesday it was our Nature Walk. We took paper, water, paintbrushes, and paint to the park and painted pictures of what we saw. We were also excited to see that the Trillium flowers are growing in our forest!
We have done a survey all week to see how we get to school each day. It is for our Moving in May challenge. This week kids in our class walked, biked, or used a scooter to get to school 58 times!
It was the Book Fair this week. We had fun making wish lists and some of us were lucky to get a book!
Last night was Black Walnut's Movie Night. Some of us came back to school at night to watch a movie! Thank you for supporting this event! Stay tuned for more movie nights next year!
We sewed hearts for our Mother's Day cards. We also painted pots and planted our spider plants that we have taken care of since September! Happy Mother's Day to all!

Our Week in Kindergarten May 1 - 5
Hi Families,
Even with all the rain we have been having, our class is full of happiness and excitement! Here are some stories from our week.
Tulip Report
We have more tulips blooming this week. When the flowers open we can see different colours. So far, we have pink tulips and red tulips.Come and see our gardens - they look beautiful!
Star Wars Day
On Star Wars day we made paintings of different characters and things we like from star wars. We also made Yoda hats and puppets too!
Some students made masks for the characters. We have a C3PO mask, a Darth Vader mask, and a Yoda mask! Some people wore costumes for Star Wars day or a Star Wars shirt.
We read new Star Wars books and did Jedi training with cosmic yoga! It was decided in a survey! Lots of people enjoyed Star Wars day!
Chip Toss
We played a new game this week. It is called 'Chip Toss'. We have to roll the 10 chips and you have to tell how you made 10.
Butterfly Garden
We received a letter in the mail from the David Suzuki Butterfly Way Foundation. The letter was full of seed packages for our Butterfly Garden! Last week we planted some of the seeds in our room and they have begun to grow!
Bean Bag Toss
We tried out a new game for our outdoor pen - Bean Bag Toss. We have to aim and toss bean bags and then count how many are on and off the board. It takes a lot of practice!
