Hi Families,
It has been a wonderful year so far working and learning with your students! Have a safe and happy holiday and we will see you in January!
Here are some stories from our week!
Mystery Plant
On Monday we helped Ms. Boag get ready for salad club and helped her scoop out the avocado. Then we realized that the seed in the avocado looked a lot like our mystery plant. We compared the two and we decided that our mystery plant must be an avocado! We were so excited!!
We tasted some avocado and a lot of us liked it! We also planted our mystery plant in dirt so it can keep growing. Maybe someday soon we will have an avocado of our own!
Coding
We were coding robots this week and took turns leading each other through a maze using coding. We could only go forwards, backwards, left, or right.
Tenzie
Ms. Boag brought out one of her favourite games to try this week - Tenzie! We each get 10 dice and you have to roll until all the dice have the same number. It is a hard game but we love to play!
Play-Dough
Some wonderful Bluejay families brought in special December play-dough for us! We made play-dough cookies and decorated our own snowmen! Thank you for helping us create such fun things and thank you to all families who supported our play-dough club this year! Our 2019 club will start again in January!
Holiday Pattern Blocks
We made shape pictures this week using pattern blocks. We used winter holiday cards to create trees, snowflakes, and even reindeer!
Nature Walk
Out in the forest this week we checked on the seeds that we had left for the birds. We were amazed to see that the seed shells were still there but they were empty! Something had eaten our seeds! We hope the forest animals have a happy holiday too!
Assembly
Thursday was our Kinderstar Assembly. It is always fun to watch the different classes perform! Ms. Lawrence's class sang a special song and afterwards we had a dance party!
Holiday Surprise
We have been working hard this week making a special surprise for all of our families. Be sure to check in your child's backpack!
Pajama Day
Pajama Day is a wonderful way to celebrate the coming holiday in a relaxing way! We all looked cozy and warm today! We even noticed that a lot of our pajama pants have patterns on them! Patterns are everywhere!
This Blog is a space where the learning in our classroom can be celebrated! Our SK students (The Bluejays) will document their learning here by listing, planning, photographing, and writing to you about the highlights of our week, though the eyes of the students.

Our Week - December 10-14
Hi Families,
Our Winter Holiday is just around the corner! Remember that Friday December 21st it will be a Pajama Day at school!
Here are some stories from our week.
Today was our last day with Ms. Sun. She is finished her time working and learning with us and goes back to Tyndale to continue learning about being a teacher! Good luck Ms. Sun! We will miss you!
Zones
We continued learning about the Zones of Regulation this week and made charts to help remind us. We are always watching our own feelings and our friends feelings to see what zone everyone is in.
Are you Green?
Are you Blue?
Are you Yellow?
Are you Red?
We got 2 new books to help us think about what we can do to get back to the Green Zone. They help to remind us to take a break and take time to ourselves.
Rhyming Poem
Ms. Boag went to a special Paint Nite and made a painting with an artist! We used purple, blue, black, and white to try to make our own painting! We liked mixing the colours and learned that when you add black, the colours get darker and when you add white the colours get lighter.
Nature Patterns
On our Nature walk we looked for patterns all around us! When we got back to class we used sticks and pinecones to make our own nature patterns.
Playground
We went to the playground on our Nature Walk to practise taking turns and working together. It took 4 friends working together to turn the spinning ride but we did it!
Gingerbread Man Challenge
Ms. Dias challenged each class to make a gingerbread character from our favourite book. We chose Elephant from Elephant and Piggie!

Our Week December 3 - 7
Hi Families,
What a wonderful week we have had to start December! We had more Chickadee families come to visit and we enjoyed showing them our room.
Thank you again for all of the boxes! Our box city is definitely growing!
Please remember that we will have nature walks on Tuesday and Thursday next week so wear your snowpants!
Here are some stories from the week.
Mystery Plant
Ms. Boag brought in some more fruits and vegetables for us to look at to see if they are the mystery plant. We still don't know what it is but we made a book of all things it isn't! We enjoyed tasting the fruits and vegetables too!
Pattern Airplanes
Since we are learning about patterns, Ms. Sun helped us make colour patterns on paper. Then we watched a youtube video to learn how to turn our papers into paper airplanes! And these airplanes could really fly! We tested them in the hallway and it was so fun!
Shape Patterns
We also worked with Ms. Sun to learn about shape patterns. Can you tell what our patterns are in the picture?
Box City
New to the city this week we have a movie theatre, an ice cream store, and a McDonalds. We also researched famous buildings and statues from around the world to add to our city. We really like the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the Statue of Liberty in New York.
Where are you Going?
We listened to a song called 'Where are You Going' to give us ideas for our city. We decided to make a class book about all the places we like to visit.
Hanukkah Games
On Friday we learned about Hanukkah and played a special game. It is called the Dreidel Game! A Bluejay in our class taught us how to play and how to recognize each symbol on the dreidel!
Feelings
We read a story about different feelings this week and talked about Green Feelings. Those are the feelings that make you feel good like happy, excited, calm, and relaxed. We worked together to make a brainstorm chart of our Green Feeling ideas. Next week we're going to think about Red Feelings.
Hour of Code
This week was Hour of Code. We spent time on Thursday and Friday trying different coding activities and even went up to the library to try coding on the iPads with Ms. Dias. We used our coding mouse 'Mousey Mouse', the Ozobots, and our Coding mats and practised our positional language (forward, backward, up, down, left, right) to solve problems and move things!

Our Week November 26 - 30
Hi Families,
Thank you to all families who have come in to meet Ms. Boag and Ms. Ancona and to families who have come to visit our Kindergarten class! On Tuesday we will be having our bus safety visit and that will only be the beginning of a very busy December!
Since last week we had a P.A. Day on Friday here are some stories from 2 weeks in Kindergarten.
Mother Earth Helpers
Our Bluejays have been hard at work taking care of Mother Earth. After reading a book we realized there are 3 important things to take care of when we are at school so we have made 3 teams - the water team, the litter team, and the recycling team. Here is some planning from each team so far. Stay tuned for more learning!
We were also asked to choose one Bluejay to be our class representative for Black Walnut's Team of Eco Leaders!
Patterns
Ms. Sun was with us all week and she is teaching us about patterns that repeat. We looked at colour patterns this week and tried to make our own.
Mystery Plant
We are still looking at and thinking about our mystery plant. We know it's not broccoli, or a tomato, or an apple tree. We do think it is a tree though but we just haven't figured out what kind.
Visits and Assembly
We had lots of visitors this week in our classroom. They were our parents visiting the chickadees! We also got to see some of our parents at the assembly this week! Ms. Sindhwani's class performed a song about peace.
Box City
Thank you for all the boxes! Our construction centre is turning into a box city! We have created houses, apartments, stores, a police station, and more!
Each time we add something to the city we make a plan. We draw out the building and how we want it to look and then we create the building from a box.
City Walk
Since we are making a city in the classroom, we decided to explore our own city on our nature walk. We saw signs, roads, mailboxes, and houses. We even found a very old house - it is over 100 years old! It is right around the corner from the school and we never knew!
Paper Airplanes
We like to make paper airplanes! We carefully fold our papers into interesting designs. We took them out into the hallway this week to throw them and see whose will go the furthest.....We discovered that they don't go very far right now. They fall to the floor. We'll have to keep trying next week!
