Hi Families,
With last week's P.A. Day, we did not get a chance to blog. So get ready for lots of stories this week!
Patterns
We have been challenging ourselves to make patterns in different ways. We used different materials in the classroom, our bodies (movements), and made different sounds to make patterns. A group of Chickadees even made a pattern dance for us!
Fishy Friends
We took a close look at our fishy friends - they got so big!! We decided to measure them using whiteboards and different math materials. It was interesting to see that we got different measuring numbers when we used different materials.
This week, we emptied out the water from their tank and we noticed that our fishy friends all got smaller again!
Dentist Office
After our visit from the Dentist we decided to create a Dentist office in our classroom. We made a waiting room for our animal puppets and a dentist chair with tools. We enjoy taking turns being the doctor, nurse, or secretary.
Baby Beluga
After listening to the song 'Baby Beluga' we used scarves to dance like the ocean waves. This gave us the idea to make a theatre where we could dance and sing and retell our baby beluga song. We made puppets and a beautiful ocean.
Surveys
In January we are learning about surveys and asking questions. Each morning our class has a new question. We all get to make our mark/choice and then we interpret the data we have collected. Some of us have started to create our own surveys too!
Happy and Angry
As we continue to work on our Resiliency strategy of 'Reframing' we read the story 'Finn Throws a Fit!' Using Finn's feelings we created a story panel to explain our own feelings. We decided that being angry feels like a storm and being happy feels like a sunny day!
Scientists in the School
On Thursday, we had the amazing experience of learning through the Scientists in the School program. Scientist Cori came in and with some wonderful parent scientists we learned about different scientists in the world.
Ask us what these scientists do:
-Paleontologist
-Chemist
-Meteorologist
-Marine Biologist
-Astronomer
Crazy Hair Day
Friday was crazy hair day and hat day. It was so much fun to see everyone's creative hairstyles!
This Blog is a space where the learning in our classroom can be celebrated! Our SK students (The Bluejays) will document their learning here by listing, planning, photographing, and writing to you about the highlights of our week, though the eyes of the students.

Happy New Year! January 8 - 12
Hi Families,
Happy New Year! We are excited to be learning in 2018!
Beautiful Junk
Some friends brought Beautiful Junk collections to school this week. Each friend sorted their junk by colours or by 'things'. Then then put the junk in our art centre colour bags. We will use this beautiful junk to create wonderful things!
Fishy Friends
Ms. Boag brought us 4 new friends for our aquarium. At first, when we put them in water, they were very small . They have been changing all week and now they are a LOT bigger! Everyday we have asked questions and made predictions and we check in to see what we have learned.
Bollywood
On Tuesday, Puja Amin came in to teach us Bollywood Dance. She told us that this dance comes from India and there they speak Hindi. We had so much fun jumping, clapping, turning, and moving.
Dentist
On Wednesday, we all went to the little gym to visit the dentist. We had to open our mouths so that she could count our teeth. She used a little mirror. Some of us thought we had 100 teeth - but we didn't have that many!
Play-Dough Art
One of our friends brought in lots of new play-dough for us this week. She brought in 8 colours!! We used these colours to make play-dough art. We used plates and lids to support our pictures and put plastic on top to keep them from getting too dry. We wrote stories about our play-dough too. We made ocean stories so that we could decorate our aquarium.
