Hi Families,
Enjoy Family Day on Monday and we will see you on Tuesday back at school.
Here are some stories from our week of celebrations!
Olympic Podium
We have been tracking Team Canada all week and have put up a flag each time Canada won a medal in the Olympics - it is very exciting!! If anyone has any newspaper clippings about the Olympics at home please send them in!
Hundredth Day
Tuesday was our 100th Day of School! Some friends made collections at home of 100 things. We made stories together about things we love so much we want 100 of them!
Valentine's Day
On Wednesday we wore red, pink, and white to celebrate Valentine's Day. We made mailboxes and we gave out cards. It was fun to read the messages from our friends.
Lunar New Year
On Friday we celebrated Lunar New Year! Some friends wore new and special clothes. We painted numbers, made noodles, and played mah jong.
Olympic Challenge
We continued our school's Olympic Challenge this week. Our exercises trained us for snowboarding, bobsled, luge, skeleton, and aerials. You should see our muscles!!
Gingerbread Houses
Our gingerbread houses are complete! Check your folders to see pictures of the completed products.
Snowman Report
We had 4 Snowmen come back to us this week! We had a Police snow-woman, a Chef, a Ballerina, and a Chinese New Year Girl.
This Blog is a space where the learning in our classroom can be celebrated! Our SK students (The Bluejays) will document their learning here by listing, planning, photographing, and writing to you about the highlights of our week, though the eyes of the students.

Our Week - February 5 - 9
Hi Families,
What a great week! Here are some stories...
Cube Names
Using connecting cubes we have started to make our names. Some letters are very tricky like the letter A but we are trying our best. Can you read our names?
Fish Surveys
We have finally started to name our pet fish! We took photos of the fish and started to brainstorm names for each fish. Then, different students made surveys to ask the class what names were their favourites. So far we have names for 4 fish....4 more to go!
Marble Maze
With a new Marble Maze kit in our construction centre we are making some innovative designs! You have to get the marble from the top of the maze to the bottom through different swirls and loops.
Grade 2 Show
Ms. Phongsy's grade 2 students came to visit this week to present a play! They showed us the story 'Stephanie's Ponytail' by Robert Munsch. It was a very funny story and the kids did a great job!
Mask Making
We found a pile of paper plates at the art centre and have started to make all sorts of masks!! We are thinking of putting on a show - we just have to figure out a story with Transformers, ladybugs, owls, and mice in it!
Olympics
We are so excited that the Olympics have finally started! We spent the week getting ready for the Olympics by learning about Canada and about our new country for Black Walnut's Olympic Challenge. We are playing as the Slovenia team. We learned that Slovenia has 71 competitors this year and they are very good a skiing sports!
For the Black Walnut Olympics, we learn about a new sport each day and do exercises to train for that sport. So far we have learned about curling, aerial skiing, and cross country skiing.
We are keeping points in the school and so far our class is one of the classes in the lead!!
Snowman's Big job
We all got a very special snowman today in our folders. We are excited to give our snowmen a job!
