Hi Families,
Notes for Next Week!
*Just a reminder that next Wednesday is Halloween! Your children are invited to dress up for the day but please no masks or weapons. If you would like to send in a snack to share with the class please send only healthy snacks (crackers, cheese, fruit, vegetables). We will have a Kindergarten parade and walk around the school to visit the other grades.
*Book bags should be returned on Monday as we would like to add new songs to our song and poem books. Bluejays are also ready to bring home readers so be sure to send these book bags regularly.
Here are some stories from our short week.
I Am Me Book
We are writers in Kindergarten and this week we worked together to make a class book. We called it the 'I Am Me' book. We all got to make a page for the book and put our photo in it. Some Bluejays made a front and back cover for the book too. We love to read our creation at the reading centre.
Outdoor Classroom Day
Wednesday was Outdoor Classroom day and it was so cold and so fun! We went outside with two Grade 1 classes and played different games. We played 'pass the hoop', partner tag, and lizard tag. We also learned about squirrels getting ready for winter and pretended to hide and find food. Being a squirrel is hard work!
*Remember that we got out to the forest 2 times a week so be sure to dress warmly! It's cold outside in the forest!
Super Sorters
We have been learning about sorting in Kindergarten and had some sorting challenges this week. Ms. Boag was so clumsy and dropped all her paperclips and the crayons from our writing centre! What a mess! We helped her to sort the items by colour and then we counted them to see which colours we had the most of.
Mr. Pike Visited
On Thursday, our principal Mr. Pike visited our classroom. We were really excited to see him and show him our classroom and show him the great things we are doing in Kindergarten!
Fighting Fires
We always enjoy building different vehicles at the construction centre and now we are making fire trucks! Ms. Boag found our fire fighter hats and some hoses and we are ready to put out fires!
This Blog is a space where the learning in our classroom can be celebrated! Our SK students (The Bluejays) will document their learning here by listing, planning, photographing, and writing to you about the highlights of our week, though the eyes of the students.

Our Week - October 15 - 19
Hi Families,
We had a wonderful week and learned a lot about safety from our TWO fire drills!
Please remember that Monday is a P.A. Day so we will see you Tuesday!
Wednesday is OUTDOOR CLASSROOM DAY and we will be outside. So please dress your children appropriately.
Here are some stories from our week.
Nature Walk Art
We went on a nature walk back to the forest to look for more leaves. We used leaves and other nature we could find in the forest to make art. We worked in groups and created masterpieces.
Sorting
We are learning about sorting in Kindergarten and tried it at different centres this week. We sorted pom poms, leaves, gem stones, and more!
Don't Get the Red Dot
We learned more about subitizing this week when we played 'Don't Get the Red Dot'! We looked at number cards and made those numbers on a ten frame. But when we got the red dot we had to take all the pieces out!
Cutting Practise
We practised our scissor cutting this week with 2 challenges! Chickadees made trains and Bluejays got to cut sweet circle treats! Cutting circles is hard work so we really had to concentrate!
Calm and Relaxed
Everyday after lunch we do our belly breathing. This is when we sit quietly and breathe deep breaths. We talked this week about the words calm and relaxed and tried to visualize places we go to feel calm and relaxed. We decided that we feel calm:
-sitting in a comfy chair
-in our bed
-floating in the water
-sitting in warm sand
We made paintings about our calm places and wrote stories to go with them.

Our Week in Kindergarten
Hi Families,
Here are some stories from our week.
Leaf Hunt
On Tuesday we went on a leaf hunt for our nature walk. We read the book 'We're going on a Leaf Hunt' and then retold the story while we walked. We found different leaves and used leaf ID cards to figure out what kind of tree they came from. We brought some leaves back to class to look at them too.
Turkey Show
After Thanksgiving, we made some turkey puppets to go in our puppet theatre. We like to be the audience and watch the show and sing along too.
Fill the Cup
This week we learned a new math game called 'Fill the Cup'. We had to look carefully at the dots on the dice and fill the cup with that many cubes.
Music Beats
We love music in our class and really love to dance and sing along. Ms.Boag brought out instruments this week so we could try to 'keep the beat'. It takes a lot of practice so we'll try this again soon!
Pumpkin
One of our wonderful Kindergarten friends surprised us this week with the biggest pumpkin in the world!! It is almost as tall as our tables! The student brought it to our class and we had fun feeling it and trying to lift it! I wonder what we will do and learn next!
Picture Day
Today was picture day. We all looked great and we had fun practising or smiles in the bathroom mirror! Stay tuned for our photos in our folders!
News From Ms. Boag
Our digital portfolios are now up and running. Please be sure to try your login and password and see what we have been learning so far. If your child's login is not working please let us in a note or drop by the classroom after school.

Our Week - October 1 - 5
Hi Families,
We have had a busy week leading up to our Thanksgiving long weekend. Here are some stories.
We Can Work Together
Sharing and taking turns is a big focus in our class right now. We are all working hard to practise using our words and saying please instead of pulling, grabbing, or biting. We really love playing with our new friends.
Orange Shirt Day
On Monday we talked about Orange shirt day. We all created an orange shirt of our own with different orange materials to show that we should all get to choose what we wear and who we want to be. We also made messages to remember that everyone is different and unique and to make sure no one feels left out.
Book Fair
Our school book fair was open this week. We visited and made wish lists and some families visited the book fair together. One of our classmates won the book fair door prize and so we got to choose new books for our class!
Markham Fair Art
Our artwork cam back from the Markham Fair. We were excited to see that some art had special ribbons on it! We had so much fun at Markham Fair last week. Thank you to all our parent helpers who made the day a success!!
Ten Drowsy Dinosaurs
We read our favourite counting book again this week and used special dinosaur counters to help tell the story.
Belly Breathing
Feeling calm and relaxed is important in a Kindergarten class. This week we started our regular belly breathing. We take a moment in the morning and in the afternoon to stop, stay still, close our eyes, put our hands on our bellies, and take deep breaths. We now have a special ball to help us visualize while we're breathing.
5 Little Turkeys
We had fun making handprint turkeys to bring home for Thanksgiving and had a great idea! We found a turkey poem and are going to create a story corner at our puppet theatre! Stay tuned for more turkey stories!
Parent Night
Thursday night our classroom was open to visitors! We enjoyed being your tour guides and showing you our classroom. We really like our room and we hope you did too! Remember that you can feel free to write us a note or come and visit or help anytime!
