Our Week - January 7 - 11

Hi Families,
Happy New Year and welcome to Kindergarten in 2019!

Thank you for sending indoor shoes back so quickly and for sending in your play-dough club forms! We always appreciate the help!

Please remember that next Friday is a PA Day and January 22nd is our class photo day!

Here are some stories from the week!

January Birthdays!
It was an exciting week back at school because we had 2 Birthdays and 2 Bluejays officially joined the Six Years Old Club! One more Chickadee friend has a Birthday this weekend and he gets to join the Five Years Old Club!


Holiday Journals
We had lots of Holiday journals come back filled with wonderful stories from your holidays. Some students shared their journal with the class and answered questions. 


Making Patterns
We continued practising making patterns this week and tried to make fancy patterns! That means it is using more than 2 things like an AB pattern. Maybe we could make an ABC pattern or an AAB patterns! We used shapes, colours, and sizes to make our patterns. 

Zones of Regulation
Starting in January we have a new job. Every morning when we get ready for our school day we have to think about how we are feeling and choose a Zone. Sometimes we feel calm. Sometimes we feel tired. Sometimes we feel silly. Sometimes we feel hungry. We talk about our feelings and help each other to be ready to learn. 


Sledding
Even though it was a little cold this week we went outside for a little while for our weekly nature walk to try some sledding! We each had a partner and took turns holding the sled or sliding down the hill! We had just enough snow for sliding! It was so much fun!




Litterless Lunch
We learned about Litterless Lunches this week. From January 21 - January 25 Black Walnut is having a litterless lunch challenge. That means our snack and our lunches should have zero waste. We can bring food in reusable container or we can boomerang the wrapper (take them home). We are trying to help Black Walnut have less garbage so we can help with Earth.


Dentist

We closed the Let's Pretend House centre in December so we needed a new centre! We made plans on paper to help decide what it should be and our top three choices were a restaurant, a School, or a Dentist office. We all voted and we are going to make a dentist office! 

We brainstormed together things that we may need and we watched a video about the dentist to give us ideas.We made toothpaste tubes and Ms. Darlow even gave us a fake pair of teeth to practise brushing! We have a waiting room and a dentist chair. The dentist calls in the patient and carefully cleans their teeth.
