Our Week - March 18 - 22

Hi Families,

Our Concert is this Thursday and we are so excited to perform for you! We have been busy practising and making costumes and decorations - we know you're going to love it! The concert begins at 6:30 but the doors will open at 6:00.

Here are some stories from last week.

Concert Preparations
It has of course been a busy week of preparing for our concert! We made octopus hats to wear for our dance and did some paintings of ocean animals to decorate the walls. All 5 classes have been meeting together to practise our finale song. See you Thursday!

Measurement
Ms. Tamaki has joined our class for the month and she is teaching us about measurement. We have started to learn about measuring the length of different things. That mean how long or short something is. We measured our shoes and our names this week - what can we measure next?!

Clothing Fundraiser
We have just finished our Bag2Bag textile fundraiser and what a success it was! Our school has collected to many items to recycle! Way to Go! We had lots of fun watching the pile grow in the hallway! The truck cam on Monday, more information to follow at the end of the week.

Making Clothes
After watching the bags and bags come in for our fundraiser, a number of students made some drawings this week of clothes that they like. They brought in their dolls and decided to make these clothes. They did such a great job that now lots of friends are beginning to bring their toys and dolls to make more clothes! If your child has a doll, action figure, or a stuffed animal that needs an outfit, feel free to send it to school and our team can make it!

Hi Families,

March Break is finally here! We hope you have a safe and happy holiday! We are sending home 2 things:
March Break Journal - draw some pictures or take some photos with your child so they can share their adventures with the class after the break!
Indoor Shoes - Be sure to check them (our feet are growing) and send a pair back after the break!

Pattern Hunt
On our nature walk this week we searched for patterns in the world! We found patterns on the walls, on houses, on eachothers' clothes, in the snow, and on trees!

Big Kid Entertainment
We watched a Big Kid Entertainment performance this week. It was called RED and it was based on Little Red Riding Hood. It helped us learn about being safe around strangers in public and on the internet.

Dental Screening
The dental hygienists came to visit and looked at our teeth. She used a different mirror to check each of our mouths. We were so excited! We all got a letter to bring home so be sure to check our folders!

Surprise Visit!
Mrs. Parsons' class came to visit us Thursday with a special surprise! They have been working hard planning and making their own instruments using recycled materials during their science of sound unit. They played for us and then let us try out their instruments!

Our concert is fats approaching so we started getting ready! It will be on March 28th in the evening and tickets will be available after March Break! We are singing and dancing in the concert. We are asking that every child wear a bright colour shirt and dark colour pants.

Our Week February 22 - March 1

Hi Families,

With our busy Friday last week we did not get a chance to blog so here are some stories from Carnaval and from this week!

Some important dates:
March 28th - Kinder concert!
April 4th - Kinder Star Assembly!

Carnaval
Last Friday we spent the day outside for Carnaval! We played olympic games, animal survival games, made SnART (Snow Art), did SnowGA (Snow Yoga), and did some dancing too! We had such a fun day and we loved being outside! We also got to eat a croissant for snack!

Nature Walk
On Tuesday, we went on our nature walk and had a fun time looking for and following different footprints! We found lots of bunny tracks and followed them to a bush that we predicted they were hiding under!

We read the book 'Wangari's Trees of Peace' and were inspired to learn more about trees. We searched the forest for trees that looked the same or different. Some trees have bumpy bark. some trees have smooth bark. Some trees have needles. Some trees still have leaves! We named the trees and said thank you to them! We appreciate the nature all around us!

Pink Shirt Day
Wednesday was Pink Shirt Day and even if we didn't have a pink shirt, we spent the day choosing kindness and making a new friend. We tried to play with kids that we haven't played with before. We made pink necklaces by choosing ten buttons or beads to string together.

Our Amaryllis!
Our Amaryllis flowers finally bloomed this week and they are beautiful! It is a very tall plant and it has 8 flowers! We spent time today painting our flowers so we will remember them.

Roll and Build
This week we played the game roll and build as we learn about 3D shapes. We got to roll a special 3D shape dice 4 times and each time we got a 3D shape block. We then had to build the tallest thing that we could using those 4 shapes.

SK Graduation Photos
Friday morning the Bluejays took their graduation photos! It was exciting to see our friends try on the cap and gown. We all looked very grown up!
