Here are some stories from the week:
Larger and Smaller
Ms. A is our student teacher from Ontario Tech University. She has been teaching us about numbers and number sets to help us see which is larger or smaller. We have looked at number sets on dice, cards, and chips.
Ramps and Balls
Our ramps are back in our construction area! We are having so much fun creating slides to see who can make the ball go the furthest!
New Benches
We have 2 new benches at our school! One is right outside the Kindergarten pen. It is for our families to sit and visit. The other bench is blue and it is a buddy bench!! It is for the big kids to sit on if they need a friend! It is always nice to have a buddy!
New Tree
We were so surprised to see a brand new tree outside by our garden! We are not sure what kind it is but we all took a turn to say 'hello' and to touch the tree bark. This tree is very smooth!
Scientists in School
On Wednesday, we had a visit from Scientists in School. Scientist Lindsay taught us all about ways to protect nature! We studied worms, learned about how to conserve water, discovered many things that come from plants, and practised making litterless lunches! Our favourite activity was learning about birds and making our own bird feeders using pasta and cereal.
Bird Feeders
On Thursday, we took our bird feeders out to our forest and hung them on the branches! We saw a lot of chickadees and even a cardinal! We have never seen a cardinal before! We left some sunflower seeds out for the chickadees too! Maybe someday they will eat the sunflowers out of our hands.
Kinder Star Assembly
Thursday was also our Kinder Star Assembly. We sang 2 songs and said our special class created land acknowledgement. We thank the land and the people who share the land with us each time we go out to the forest.
This Blog is a space where the learning in our classroom can be celebrated! Our SK students (The Bluejays) will document their learning here by listing, planning, photographing, and writing to you about the highlights of our week, though the eyes of the students.

Here are some stories from our week:
Chicka Chicka Alphabet
We received many letters this week in the mail! I was so exciting! We only opened 2 letters and they both came from Saskatchewan. A letter L and a letter Y. First, we made predictions of what the letters would look like by brainstorming things that begin with that letter. Here are our guesses:
Letter Y
-yoyo -yellow -yummy -yucky -yarn -yam
Letter L
-lamb -lion -lollipop -leaf -lizard -lamp
The Y was made into a Yak and the colour Yellow
The L was made into a Ladybug and a Lion
Nature Walk Seed Explosion!
A couple of weeks ago we found a reed on our nature walk. We brought it back to class to add to our nature rainbow. Last week it EXPLODED! It burst open and seeds went all over the place! On our nature walk this week, we took the bag of seeds back to the forest and watched them float and fly in the wind.
Spider Plants
We have been growing and taking care of spider plants in our classroom since we were Chickadees. Our big spider plant has a lot of babies so we put them in pots and took turns delivering them to teachers around the school. We wrote a letter to teach them about how to take care of a plant.
Snow and Snow Art!
SURPRISE! It snowed this week! We put snow into buckets to play with inside the classroom and we made snow art. We looked out the window and made paintings about what we saw.
**Coming Soon - S.T.E.A.M. Week!
We are in need of TUBES!! If you have any of the following, please send them in!
-wrapping paper tubes
-pringles cans

Our Rainy Week In Kindergarten! October 28 - November 1
Hi Families,
We had a wet week in Kindergarten with a lot of indoor recess time but we showed Ms.Boag and Ms. Ancona how kind and responsible we are! We took time to enjoy nature, got mail, made a book, continued subitizing, took care of animals, and celebrated our friends achievements and Halloween!
Here are some stories from the week.
Leaf Pile Jumping
We went out to the forest on Wednesday - even though it was raining - and had a great time! We read the story Leaf Jumpers and decided to make our own pile of leaves. It was really hard work! We had to keep scooping and piling a long time! When our pile was finished, we took turns jumping into the leaves - they were so crunchy! It was so much fun! We brought leaves back to our classroom and made our own nature rainbows in our nature journals.
Chicka Chicka Letter Exchange
We have been working for a number of weeks on a special letter - the letter P! This week we mailed our letter P art to 25 different schools across Canada as part of the Chicka Chicka Letter Exchange. We now get to wait and see what schools will mail us in return!
We already got our first letter. It was the letter H! We made predictions of what we thought would be inside our envelope. When we opened it we saw that the letter H was made into a horse and a house! This letter came all the way from Alberta!
Ratuki
We continued subitizing this week with a new game called Ratuki! We were introduced to a new way to make numbers called tally marks. We had to match number up to 5! Ms. Boag is teaching us a game to play with these cards.
Kinder Star
On Thursday, we had our first Kinder Star assembly. We will have one each month to celebrate student achievements. Each month 3 friends will get an award - Good Friend, Responsibility, and Try My Best. We also had 4 extra friends who got an award from the Markham Fair! We watched Mrs. Harcharik's class perform 2 songs and NEXT MONTH, we get to perform at the assembly!
Halloween
In the afternoon, we visited classes all around the school for our Kindergarten parade.
We all dressed up for Halloween and took photos of our costumes. We are going to make a class book and write about our special day!
After the parade, we got to eat some yummy and healthy snacks. We had fruit, vegetables, cheese, and crackers. Thank you for sending these yummy snacks! We also got to play Trick or Treat and put special loot bags into our back packs for home!
When our snacking was finished we joined the other Kindergarten classes for a dance party! It was exciting to see all our Kindergarten friends in their costumes.
We Scare Hunger
The W.A.T.CH club at Black Walnut counted and sorted our canned food donations today! They will be delivered to the Food Bank next week! Way to go Wolverines!
Worms
On Friday, we opened up our Vermi Composter. When we closed the composter at the end of September, we knew it was filled with newspaper, dried leaves, some food scraps, coffee grounds, and red wriggler worms. But when we looked inside today all we could find was our worms and dirt! Somehow the food is all gone and now there is dirt! We will have to investigate this some more!
