Stories from Kindergarten - March Edition!

Hi Families,

With March Break a day away we wish everyone a safe and happy holiday! We will not see you until April so be sure to read lots of books, take time to go outside, write in your March Break journal, look for environmental print and collect pictures, and have lots of fun!

Here are some stories from March.

Favourite Stories
Students have been encouraged to bring in a book from home that they love to read. It may be a book they read on their own or they may read it with their family. We have had so many wonderful books come into our class so far! Everyone's favourite is so different! We are working on making a book of all our favourite books.

Bluejay Graduation
Our Bluejays went to the multipurpose room to get photos taken for graduation. It was so exciting to put on the black cape and hat - we felt so big!

Our Fish Tank
We noticed that our fish tank was looking a little bit green. Ms. Boag got a special pump and vaccuum that we used to clean the tank. Now it is sparkly clean! We also decided it was time to name our fishy friends. We made a sign to label the fish. Our snail is named Shelly and the 3 fish are named Tiny, Curly, and Speedy. They are going to Ms. Boag's house for the March Break!

Our Castle
We said goodbye to our castle this week. We have had so much fun learning about the people who live in the castle and the different things you would find inside.

Worm Watch
We checked on our worm composters this week and they looked great! All the food and newspaper we gave them in January is gone and now there is only dirt! We added new food and newspaper so the worms are ready to relax on March Break!

Chicka Chicka Alphabet
We got our final 4 letters this week so we have officially finished our alphabet! We never got the letter Q so Mrs. Harcharik's class gave us a copy of theirs! We are so proud of our alphabet and we have learned a lot about letters!

Sand Drawing
The Chickadees worked with Ms. Ancona this week and made their own 'Etch a Sketch'. They used their fingers to make letters, numbers, and pictures in the sand.

Nature Walk Fun
On Tuesday, it was very rainy. We read the book 'This Beautiful Day' and decided that even a grey and cloudy rainy day could be beautiful so we went outside searching for beautiful. We watched the Canada Geese playing on the grass, we listened to the pitter patter of the rain, stomped our boots into muddy puddles, and listened to the squishy sound the grass makes when it is wet.

February in Kindergarten!

Hi Families,
It has been a very different February but we have done our best to keep our routines going. Even though we have been away from school for a few days we have still kept very busy!

Happy Birthday Hand Washing!
We all practised washing our hands together. We used really foamy soap and has to rub it all over our hands - even in between our fingers! We learned that you have to wash your hands for a long time, so we sang Happy Birthday as we washed our hands to help clean them for just the right amount of time!

Chicka Chicka Alphabet
We are nearing the end of our Letter Exchange and are only waiting on 4 more letters!
This month we got the letters R, A, and F. We really liked the letter R because the words were written in English and French!

Pink Shirt Day
On February 26th we celebrated Pink Shirt Day! We each painted our own shirt and made our own pink paint by mixing white and red together. We all wrote messages about how to be a good friend and how to show kindness.
We also each made a promise to be kind and to be a good friend and linked them together in a chain.
We took our Chickadees to the school's special Pink Shirt Day banner and they each got to write their name onto the banner. We all did this last year when we were Chickadees. It was to looking for our names on the banner!

Outdoor Learning
It has been a lovely month out in nature! We took time to sled, make snowballs, and search for animal tracks. February was also Carnaval at Black Walnut and we got to do special activities.

We enjoyed making 'Bonhomme de Neige' (Snowmen) since it was perfect packing snow.

We put dried up markers in water to make our own snow paint and we sprayed it on the snow and made rainbow designs!

We worked together on team skis and tried to move - it was very slow since we all needed to step at the same time!

We visited different outdoor centres to do some snow yoga. It was very quiet and we felt calm and relaxed.

 Number Books
We have been working hard this winter making number books. We practise printing the number and then make a picture. This month we added the numbers 5, 6, and 7. We are hoping to get to the number 10 before March Break!

Our Spider Plants
Our spider plants finally had enough roots and we planted them in pots. We added dirt and watered them and we hope they will grow big and strong!

Castle Updates
We have made flags, towers, and rooms for our castles.
We also made a carriage out of a wagon by building walls and decorating them! Some friends also made horses to pull our carriage.
We have listened to a number of favourite princess stories and have learned about some new princess stories too!

Our Week - January 27 - 30

Hi Families,

With tomorrow being our PA Day we thought we would blog today. Even though it was a short week we were very busy!
Here are our stories.

Number Books
This week we added the numbers 3 and 4 to our number books. Each time we add a number we practise writing the number and look for the numbers around the room. This time, we found the number 3 on a storybook call 'The Three Little Kittens'. We talked about the number 3 in other books too like The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and the Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Footprints in the Snow
We went out to the forest with Ms. Darlow to look for more footprints. This time we found dog and raccoon prints!

Letter F
We got the letter F in the mail this week and it was a fish and a flower. We are getting really good at making predictions and guessing what will be in the envelope. This time many Bluejays got the right answer.

Happy Birthday Mr. Robot
We decided that our box robot should have a birthday party this week. We made Mr. Robot a new birthday shirt and a hat, a present box filled with gifts, and some hand written cards. We even made a friend for Mr. Robot so that he would have someone to play with! Creating with boxes is so much fun!

New Puzzles
After cleaning our closet, Ms. Bog and Ms. Ancona found some new puzzles for us to try. Each puzzle cam in a bag and Ms. Boag said they came all the way from Australia. We worked together to try each puzzle and they all made different things. Some puzzles had number and some had letters.

Paper Airplanes
We wanted to try to make a paper airplane so we got some paper and we found a video on youtube to teach us. We started off ok but the video got really hard. We didn't know at first but now we know that paper airplanes are hard work to make! We persevered and did it and we got to test them out!
We learned about the word 'yet'. Sometimes we are not ready to do something 'yet'. But if we keep trying and practicing we can do it!

Castles & Costumes
Ms. Ancona brought us an amazing surprise on Thursday!! Since we have been planning and creating our Let's Pretend castle, she found and brought in some princess costumes for us to dress as princesses! They were so beautiful! Next we will be looking for some prince and knight costumes!!
