Happy Holidays! Our Week December 19 - 23

Hi Families,

Have a safe and Happy Holiday and we will see you in the New Year!
Remember to write in your Holiday Journal and collect some 'Beautiful Stuff' for our art centre!

Turtle Island Performers

On Tuesday, we had our first performance from our Arts Series! It was called 'Visions of Turtle Island' and the troupe did Tribal Dances from the Mohawk people. They showed us the dance of the Mustang and of the Butterfly.

Candy Canes
We used pipe cleaners and beads to make candy canes with patterns. Some of us learned to finish (extend) a pattern that Ms. Boag made, and some of u made our own pattern!

Gingerbread Math
Ms. Ancona played a Gingerbread counting game with us. We had to cook just the right number of Gingerbread men on our tray!

Card Making
We made lots of cards and letters this week. Cards for our families, cards for our Big Kid Buddies, and letters to Santa! We hope everyone enjoys them because we love writing!

Big Kid Buddy Visit
On Thursday, our Big Kid Buddies visited. We gave them the funny cards we had made and we worked together to make art. We made snowflakes, snowmen, candy canes, gingerbread men, and trees.

Pajama Day
Friday was pajama day and we all felt comfy and cozy!
What a great way to start the holiday!

Trumpet and Singing Concert
Ms. Ma, the music teacher, sent her choir and her trumpet players to our classroom to perform songs about Christmas and Hanukkah. We loved the different instrument sounds!

Art Carousel
We went to visit Mrs. Harcharik and Mrs. Davidson to do some art and some dancing! The other 2 classed came to visit our room also! It was fun to see other classrooms!

Have a safe and Happy Holiday!
See you in 2017!

This week in Kindergarten December 12 - 16

Hi Families,

Here are some stories from our snowy week! Just a reminder to always dress your child warmly for the weather. If the temperature is -20 or below we do not go outside.

On Tuesday, we went on a nature walk. We made a snowman at the forest. One of our Chickadees got a carrot for us to use as the nose!
We went sledding on our nature walk. First we made a pile of snow, and then we turned it into a slide. It was fun! We all like the snow!

This week we read 3 different Gingerbread books. As we read, we thought about what was going to happen and if each book was different or the same.
We really liked the story about the Gingerbread Girl because she used her hair to tie up the mouth of the fox and she didn't get eaten! She was a smart Gingerbread Girl and she had a beautiful dress made of candy.

After playing in the snow last week we have been curious about igloos. Now, we have an igloo in our classroom! We looked at different books on igloos and we learned how the Inuit make an igloo and what it looks like inside a real igloo!

Building Block Challenge
In math, we had a building challenge. We could only use 10 blocks to create something. We could use rectangles or squares. We were very creative and worked hard to count each block one at a time.

Reminders:
-Please return signed report cards and envelopes
-Song and Poem books are due Monday
-Any book bags should be returned on Monday/Tuesday

Our Week in Kindergarten December 5 - 9

Hi Families,

Here are some stories from our week!

Mitten Drive
We are having a mitten drive. It is for people who don't have mittens. Kids will get the mittens we bring in. We are collecting mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves. Our class made mittens and signs for the hallway to tell about the mitten drive.

Coding

We tried coding in Kindergarten. We had a truck and a house. We had to move the truck in the squares to get to the house. We put dice on the grid paper and the truck had to go around them. We also tried coding with our Big Buddies!

Snowy Nature Walk

We went on a snowy nature walk this week. We made hand prints and drawings in the snow. We played with the snow and we also had fun trying to make an igloo. We called it a snow house. We liked working together to make the snow house.

Building a Snowman
On Monday, we made a snowman by rolling the snow. It was fun and we made it really big. We used sticks for arms.

Our Chicka Chicka Tree
The Chicka Chicka Tree is finished! We got our last 2 letters - H and N - from a neighbouring class! Now, we have a letter tree book!

Our Week in Kindergarten November 28 - December 2

Hi Families,

Here are some stories from our week.

Marble Run
Our Sensory Table is now a marble centre. We can build marble tracks and test them by getting a marble and putting it in.

Light Table
We liked exploring the new crystals at the light table. We sorted the crystals in different baskets and we made patterns.

Geo Safari
Geo Safari is a new toy machine in our class. We can play games on it. We played the counting game and we needed to press the buttons to select the numbers that match the number we counted on the black dots.

Dentist
On Tuesday, a Dentist came to the school. We liked going to the dentist because we all got a sticker. It didn't hurt at all and we were very brave. We all played Simon Says while we were waiting.

Kinder Star Assembly
We did a song and a dance at the assembly. We made a video of our performance. It is in our digital portfolios.

AT Factory
We made an AT Factory by using A and T magnets and then we made words by taking other letter magnets and putting them together. It was fun to make words on our own like cat, bat, and sat.

Our Week - November 21 - 24

Hi Families,
In this short week we have seen many changes in the weather! Snowpants, hats, mitten, and coats have arrived! Keep practicing those zippers at home! Winter is coming....

Snowy Nature Walk
On Monday we went back to our woodlot to see how it had changed with the snow! It was windy but there was lots of snow! We made footprint tracks and hunted for leaves. They were all hiding under the snow.

Five-zies
Ms. Ancona taught us a new math game this week called 'Five-zies'. To play, you need 5 dice. You need to roll and roll and roll until all the dice have the same number.

Construction Site
Our Construction Site is open now and it is a lot of fun! We have tools, helmets, goggles, and work vests. It is important to be safe with all our tools but if we work together, we can make great things!

Big Buddy Visit
Big Buddies visited on Wednesday. We enjoyed reading together and then we showed them our classroom. The Big Buddies loved playing with us and our puzzles, painting materials, and building blocks.

Parent Visits!

We are very excited to have our Bluejay families come to visit tonight and tomorrow. Don't worry Chickadee families - your turn is coming soon!! We will see you in our classroom beginning December 2nd! Check your child's folder for a confirmation note.

Our Week in Kindergarten, November 14 - 18

Hi Families,

Parent Interviews
We were excited to find out that our SK parents will be coming in to our classroom next Thursday and Friday after school. We are very proud of the learning we have done in our classroom and are excited for you to hear about it!

Don't Get the Red Dot!
This week our math game was 'Don't Get the Red Dot!'. Each student in the group must pick a card and tell the number they see. If you get the red dot, the game is over!

Olympic Long Jump
Today we had our second Kindergarten Olympic event. It was the long jump. Our 2 teams were Spain and France. We had to jump really far and not fall down!

                                   Construction Site

We have started to make our Let's Pretend Centre into a Construction site! One of our Bluejays started the inquiry by creating a survey and asking the class if a construction site would be fun.
We have tools and helmets and goggles.
We want to know how they make different buildings and why construction workers take breaks?

                                       Leaf Man

Our nature walk on Monday was another wonderful leaf hunt! We played hide and seek in leaf piles and created different leaf pictures inspired by the story 'The Leaf Man'.

Cloud Dough

This week, Ms. Ancona helped us to make Cloud Dough! We created a recipe and followed it. Our dough smells so nice and it feels soft.

Little Red Riding Hood
Ms. Cohen came to visit this week and read the story Little Red Riding Hood. Together, we talked about the characters and setting from the story. We also did a retell using puppets!
