Our Week - February 21-24

Hi Families,

We hope you had a wonderful Family Day!
Here are some stories from our week!

This week we finished sharing everybody's mystery bags that we made for the 100th day of school. some of our favourite mystery items were acorns, pasta, and popsicle sticks.

We are doing a play for the Kinder Star Assembly. It is called Handa's Surprise. Each of us have a part. Some kids are trees, and some are animals. We also have narrators and a chorus too! We have been practicing our play all week with Ms. Bucci's class.  We hope you will come to see it.

Three boys worked together to make a light table challenge with shape magnets. You have to fill the light table board with the magnets and then you have count how many pieces you used. Next, you need to cover the board again but you have to use a different number of blocks.

Today, we went on a nature walk. We have been making bird feeders and today we hung them up on the trees. We investigated what birds eat by looking at different pictures in books. We found out that birds eat seeds and fruit so we put seeds and dried fruit (raisins and cranberries) in our bird feeders. If you go to the forest this weekend maybe you will see our bird feeders.

Our Week - February 13 - 17

Hi Families,
We had such a busy week that each Bluejay has written their own story! We hope you enjoy!

Big Buddies
Our Big Buddies came on Monday! We made Valentine Bags with them. It was great to see them as they haven't come in a long time!

Milk
We are learning about food because food makes us strong and gives you energy. On Monday, we had a milk presentation. Milk comes from cows. It makes us healthy when we drink it.

Measuring Challenge
We have finished measuring the shelf. We found out that the shelf is 6 red blocks tall, or 11 pencils tall, or 8 kleenex boxes.

Bird Houses
We have been bringing cans, cartons, and bottles into our class to make bird feeders and bird houses. We are all making plans to build our own. Soon, we will put them in the forest.

Valentine's Day
On Valentine's Day it was so much fun! We got to read the cards our friends gave us. We really liked the Valentine books.

Pajama Day
It was Pajama Day on Tuesday. We had fun working and playing in our Pajamas!

100th Day of School
On the 100th Day of school we celebrated 100 days of being in school. We had fun looking at and listening to our friends share their mystery bags.

Mystery Bag
Each kid got a bag and they put 100 things inside. Then, we had to guess what was inside by listening to the clues. Some people brought popsicle sticks, stickers, pasta, acorns, beans, toothpicks, rice, and bread tags.

Tenzie
In Ms. Boag's Mystery Bag there were 100 dice! We used them to play Tenzies this week. Ms. Boag is undefeated! She wins the game every time! You play by rolling 10 dice until they are all the same. It is fun!

String Measuring
For the 100th day of school, we measured string to be 100cm. We worked in partners or small groups to measure things around the room. We looked for things that were smaller than 100cm, the same as 100cm, or bigger than 100cm. A shoe is smaller, Rover is the same, and a door is bigger than 100cm.

We have a new shelf in our class that some chickadees helped to put together by following the instructions in a book. we sorted and counted the parts and followed the directions step by step. Now we want to measure the shelf with different things from all around our classroom. We chose blocks, pencils, and name tags. So far we have measured with pencils. Our shelf is 11 pencils tall.

Stories From January 2017

Hi Families,

At the end of each day, we come together as a class to discuss our learning from the day. We have created a learning calendar for each of our months at school.

In January, we decided to take this a step further and working with the SKs, we created a book highlighting our favourite events.

Here is a video of our SKs reading their stories...
