Our Week in Kindergarten April 24 - 28

Hi Families,

This week was filled with fun and excitement! With assemblies, presentations, a trip to the park, and new additions to our Kindergarten area, we have definitely been on the 'happy side'.

We finally had our first tulip bloom today! It is pink! It looks like we have lots more coming too! We have been watching the tulips grow from our classroom using binoculars!

Our Kindergarten area now has a weaving wall. We use different ribbons and streamers to weave into the fence and create pictures and art.

We had a Zoo presentation this week. A lady showed us some extinct animals and animal bones and we got to pretend to be cougars, mountain lions, and a heron.

Instead of going to the forest this week, we had art in the park. We sat around the blue park and drew pictures of what we saw.

We are learning about our feelings and learning how to get to the happy side (optimism) when we are on the sad side. We made a list together of words/feelings that are happy and sad and made happy/sad masks with plates and popsicle sticks. We made a happy side and sad side book. It was full of stories about what makes us happy and sad and how we can get to the 'happy side'.

April 18 - 21

To Celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd, our class created stories and paintings of different ways that we all can help our Earth!

Protect the Trees
Trees help the Earth have clean air. (N.L)
We need to protect the trees so that birds have a place to make a nest and lay eggs. (E.H. and R.R)
We need trees for birds. (D.A)

Keep Our Earth Clean
Remember to pick up your garbage. Don't just drop it on the floor.
We have to clean the Earth to make sure Earth is clean. If you don't clean the Earth then Earth will not be clean. (M.H)
Earth is for everyone.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Remember to recycle cans and bottles. They go in the blue bin! (A.C)
Put things in the right bin. Does it go in the blue bin, the green bin, or the garbage bin? (O.C)

Turn off the Lights
Save energy and turn off the lights when you don't need them or when you leave the room. (T.P)

Protect Bees and Butterflies
Bees and butterflies need flowers. Plant flowers and gardens to give bees and butterflies a place to get nectar. They will help us grow more flowers and gardens. (L.L)

Happy Earth Day Everyone!!

April 10 - 13

Hi Families,
Here are some stories from our week.

Day of Pink
It was the Day of Pink on Wednesday. There were 19 people in our class wearing pink! We liked Pink day because anyone can wear whatever they want. Boys can wear pink and girls can wear blue. Colours are for everyone!

Egg Painting
We all did an egg painting this week. We used pastel colours to paint and we made these colours by mixing regular colours with white. This made all our paint lighter. Then, we made a puzzle from our eggs by cutting them out.

Tulip Report
With all the rain this week our tulip garden has grown a lot! We have so many leaves growing now and they are getting taller. We are making predictions to see when the flowers will bloom. Do you have a prediction?

A Visitor in Our Garden!
We saw 3 doves in our gardens this week. They were eating the seeds from our bird feeders. We are so excited to have birds coming closer to our windows and hope they will keep visiting!

More Board Games
We made 2 more board games this week. Now everyone has had a turn! This week our games are called 'Help the pups get to the Look Out' and 'Help the Monkeys Find the Bananas'.

Our Week in Kindergarten - April 3 - 7

Hi Families,

Thank you again for coming out to our Canada 150 Kinder Concert last night! We had so much fun performing for you and hope you enjoyed it!

We made some trees for the concert to decorate the walls. We made oak trees, pine trees, and birch trees.

Last night we had our Canada 150 concert. We performed O Canada and we also performed our Ontario dance 'A Place to Stand'. We had so much fun and after performing we felt great!

We have started to make our own board games using stickers, paper, and markers. One of our favourites is called 'Help the vegetables get clean'! We also have a game about Canada flags called 'Help the flags get to the Pole'!

Our Big Buddies were here on Tuesday. We haven't seen them in a long time! We read books and played with our robots; Sphero and Ozobot.
