Hi Families,
What an exciting week we have had! Thank you so much for coming to our concert and supporting us! We hope you enjoyed the show!
Here are some stories from behind the scenes!
Videos
Many families sent information about different countries that we have been to or where our family is from. We researched these countries and learned about different dances from these areas. We chose our favourite 5 videos to show you at the concert. You got to see Bhangra, Irish Step Dancing, Merengue, Shaolin Monk Dance, The Hora, and Tinikling.
Decorations
Our class made all the signs, words, and messages that you saw on the walls for the concert. We shared different languages that we speak and we learned some new languages too!
Costumes
We watched different videos of hula dancers to prepare for our performance. We planned and made different grass and straw outfits to wear. We made our own head pieces too!
Hawaiian Roller Coaster
While we watched hula videos, we learned different actions can tell a story. We chose some hula actions to match our song and made some of our own moves too. We all helped to make the moves for our dance! Can you tell which moves are our favourites?
Millions Dreams
We have had so much fun learning this song because we got to visit other classes to go and sing with them. Our class was partnered with Mrs. Harcharik's class for our part. Each class chose a special dream for the world. We voted to choose our class dream:
We dream of a world full of love, kindness, and respect.
Dress Rehearsal Surprise
Thursday afternoon we practised the concert for the students at the school. They loved it! After the concert our big buddies surprised us with a BIG card and a message! We love our big buddies!
Family Performance
We were so excited to perform for you last night. First, we were a bit nervous because the lights were all off but then we were ready to dance and sing. We even saw some of you singing O Canada with us!
Snacks and Crafts
Many families sent in food donations and we made head bands and bracelets to sell at the concert.
(Thank you for making our evening a success and for being such amazing families!! It is a pleasure to work with you!! - From Ms. Boag and Ms. Ancona)
This Blog is a space where the learning in our classroom can be celebrated! Our SK students (The Bluejays) will document their learning here by listing, planning, photographing, and writing to you about the highlights of our week, though the eyes of the students.

Our Week in Kindergarten April 9 - 13
Hi Families,
With our concert just 2 weeks away (April 26th 6:30pm) we have been busy dancing and singing. Thank you to those families who have sent in their 'Dance Around the World' page. So far we have learned about the Philippines dance 'Tinikling' and the Kenyan dance 'Chakacha'. Tickets for our concert went on sale this week on cash online so be sure to order!
Here are some stories from our week!
Plastic Bag Challenge
We have a bag challenge this week. The whole school is bringing in plastic bags to recycle. We collect bags from different classes. We count the plastic bags and put them into a big box. When the challenge is over we will take the bags to Walmart and they will recycle them and turn them into new things!
Pink Day
On Wednesday it was another pink shirt day! We made a buddy chain. We each made a buddy message on a small paper and then we put them together in a chain and put them on the wall.
Our buddy chain is taller than Ms. Boag!!
At the Zoo
Everyday this week we have learned about a different animal. Today was zebra day. We learned that zebras can kick to protect themselves. Their kick is powerful and it can break bones! So look out for zebras!! Earlier this week we learned about elephants and how to be a zookeeper. A zookeeper has to cut the elephants toenails and clean them!
Big Buddies in the Makerspace
Our big buddies met us in the makerspace. Some buddies had made surprise toys for us and other buddies helped us make bows with twist ties. We always love seeing our big buddies. We made lego creations and paper airplanes. and some of us got to visit with Ms. Stevens pet guinea pig named Grace. Ms. Darlow also brought some neat suction shapes to build towers with.
3D Shape Books
We made towers with 3D shapes. We learned some 3D shapes can slide, roll, or stack. 3D shapes are fat not flat. Ms. S gave each of us a 3D shape book so that we could put things that we have learned inside. Today, we are going on a 3D shape walk to find shapes around us.
Planetarium
The Planetarium came to visit us! We went into a dark tent and we saw stars and planets shining on the walls of the tent. We had a scientist named Olivia.

Our Week April 3 - 6
Hi Families,
Here are some stories from our 2 short weeks at school.
It's a Zoo!
We have been busy making different animals to go in our zoo. Now we have started to think about what a zookeeper does in the zoo. We are researching our zoo animals to see what the zookeepers do to take care of them.
Elephants and Polar Bears
We watched a video about elephant zookeepers. They clean the elephant's feet, look in their mouths, and cut up celery and apples for the elephants to eat.
Ms. S brought in a paper polar bear for us to see and it was so big! It was as big as our carpet! We did not know that polar bears could be so big! We have been working in small groups to try to measure our polar bear in different ways. So far we have measure using cards, shapes, and dominoes.
3D Shapes
It is fun learning about 3D shapes. We have a 3D song that we like to sing everyday. We have looked for different 3D shapes in our classroom and have tried to build our own.
Shape Shadows
At the construction centre we all got to build a tower using 3D shapes. Then we put a flashlight behind our tower so we could see the shadows. We put paper on the wall and then we drew our shadows to make our towers into art.
Getting Ready for the Concert!
On April 26th at 6:30pm it will be our Kindergarten Concert 'Rhythm of the Night'. We have been busy learning about dances from around the world and we have decided to do a hula dance for the concert! Our song is called Hawaiian Roller Coaster - be sure to ask us to show you our cool moves!

Each Day this week we have had students share their March Break Journals. They each take a turn to show pictures and answer questions.
Eye Tests
Our Bluejays has their vision screening this week. They all had a photo taken of their eyes with a special camera. Then they did different tests wearing glasses or with one eye closed.
Graduation Photos
Our Bluejays were very excited to bring home their Graduation photos to show their families. Please remember to place your orders by March 29th!
It's a Zoo
We have decided to close our Aquarium and are creating a zoo! We have made different animals from egg cartons and now we are making them homes.
Ramp Challenge
As we begin to explore shapes we have started to make ramps in our construction. We are trying to see what shapes will roll the farthest and the fastest.
Spring
Spring is here! We were happy to see that there is no snow left! We went out to the forest with our big buddies today to look for Spring changes.
Welcome Ms. S!
Ms. S has joined us this week from UOIT. She is teaching us about 3D shapes.
