Hi Families,
Here are some stories from our short week.
Golden Shoe
Last week we won the Moving in May Golden Shoe Challenge! That means we got the most points in the school for students who walked or biked to school.
We went back to the butterfly garden this week to plant some special marigold flowers that were donated to the school. The little yellow flowers have given the garden some extra colour. We think they are beautiful!!
Our Bean Plants
The beans that we planted are getting much bigger! We are watching them carefully and giving them lots of water!!
Big Buddies
On Thursday we went to the park and the forest with our big buddies to help protect the Earth. We put on gloves and we worked together to pick up garbage! Our park is much cleaner now and we hope it can stay that way!
Ramps
Our construction centre now has ramps! We are working in small groups to try to make a ball move on the ramps. We are trying to figure out how to make the ball go faster down the ramps.
Imaginary Garden
We had so much fun working in the school's butterfly garden that we are working with Ms. Ancona to make an imaginary garden in our classroom. We made signs and flowers and we work in the sensory tub to help them grow.
Making Lists
The Bluejays are learning to make lists this week. We looked for lists around the room and found a lot! Then we tried to make or own. We made lists about colours, friends, flowers, superheroes and more!
This Blog is a space where the learning in our classroom can be celebrated! Our SK students (The Bluejays) will document their learning here by listing, planning, photographing, and writing to you about the highlights of our week, though the eyes of the students.

Our Week in Nature! May 14-18
Dear Families,
We have enjoyed our week working and learning in Nature and learning about people and the world around us. Here are some stories.
Planting and Gardening
This week we were in charge of Black Walnut's Butterfly garden. It was our job to water the garden, pull out weeds, and water our trees. We planted new plants (sedum, chelone, violets) and put wildflower seeds into the garden. While we were digging we looked at plant roots and leaves and we found many many worms!! We painted new rocks to decorate the garden too.
Ms. Boag also taught us a new tag game called 'seed tag'. The person who is it is the gardener and when they touch someone they become the planted seeds. You are back in the game when someone taps you on the head and pretends to water the plants.
Outdoor Classroom Day
On Wednesday we celebrated Outdoor Classroom Day. First, we watched other classes celebrate Outdoor Classroom day by looking out our window and then it was our turn! We read a story, did a math scavenger hunt, and went to the forest for 'sit spot exploring'. This is when you sit queitly on a special mat and look and listen to the forest around you. We used nature frames to take pictures of special things we saw in the forest.
Nature Walk
On Friday, we went to the forest for our nature walk. We took tarps, mats, and ropes out with us and tried to build shelters and forts. It was hard work since it was a little windy but we had a lot of fun!
Ice Cream Shop Update
We are continuing to create our classroom Ice Cream Shop. This week we added some server uniforms so our clothes don't get dirty and we added a cash register and money so that people can buy our ice cream! We learned about the penny, nickel, quarter, and dime and practised counting by 1s, 5s, 10s, and 25s.
Celebrating Ramadan
A beautiful pretend Mosque was donated to our school to help celebrate the month of Ramadan. We went to look at it and learned about Ramadan and Mosques from 2 Grade 5 student experts.
Beanstalks
Last week we planted bean seeds. On Friday, we were excited to see that our beans are growing! We have very tiny beanstalks growing in our K-Pen. Maybe they will be as tall as they sky after our long weekend!

Dear Families,
It has been a wonderful week in Kindergarten. We have been watching our tulip plants slowly begin to bloom this week! We think they are beautiful! It is a great time to be learning outside so we are excited that next Wednesday it will be 'Outdoor Classroom Day' at Black Walnut. We will get to go outside and try new things!
Here are some stories from the week.
Book Fair
We went to the book fair on Tuesday. We all looked at the books and then we made a list of the books we would like. Some of us visited the book fair during the week and some of us went with our families.
Moving in May
Every day in May we are counting how many people in our class walked, biked, used a scooter, or drove to school. We get points for anyone who walks, bikes, or uses a scooter to get to school. This week we got 111 points! We got tattoos and postcards. Our daycare friends all go for a walk before the school bell.
Mother's Day
Mother's Day is special because we all love our families so much! This week we painted pictures of our Moms for Mother's Day. We also wrote messages to our Moms. We all decorated flower pots for the spider plants we have been growing and watering. We like our plants because the leaves look like spider legs!
Planting
We have special planters called 'Caja Planters' outside in our kindergarten area. We have planted bean seeds in them. We hope that they grow soon!
Ice Cream Stand
We made an ice cream shop in our classroom. We use play-dough as the ice cream. We have different ice cream flavours. We have chocolate, vanilla, rainbow, lemon, and cinnamon. We are practising being the server and taking orders and money from our customers.

Our Week April 30 - May 4
Hi Families,
It has been a wonderful week! Here are some stories.
Kinder Star Assembly
On Monday we performed at the Kinder Star Assembly. We sang our 3D shape song and we did a Pete the Cat play. We hope you liked our assembly.
New Blocks
We have new blocks that were brought back from Australia! We love our new magnet blocks!
Garden Report
Our tulips are growing in the gardens. We think they might have flowers by next week!
Nature Guides
On Thursday, Ms. Boag and Ms. Ancona were not here and we had 2 supply teachers! Ms. Boag and Ms. Ancona were in the forest and they were learning how to be nature guides.
Star Wars Day
May the 4th is Star Wars Day! We had fun reading a Star Wars ABC and making masks. We decided it was best to use the good side of the force by keeping calm and using our belly breathing!
