What a busy Fall it has turned out to be! We are hoping to catch up on our storytelling so stay tuned for a few more blog posts!
Here are some stories from September!
Garden Visit
We had such beautiful weather in September so we took time to visit our school's butterfly garden. We were excited to see so many thing growing and to teach our Chickadees how to water the plants! Mrs. Bergerson also brought her class outside to visit. They have been taking care of a caterpillar chrysalis and it hatched! She let us join her class as they let the monarch butterfly go - they told us it was flying to Mexico!
Worm Composting
We have a special compost bin in our classroom now and it is filled with WORMS!! We helped to set up the composter by ripping up newspaper and then we got to look at the red wriggler worms up close! We sprayed the newspaper with water to keep it wet and added coffee grounds and some vegetables for the worms to eat. They will turn all of this into new soil for our garden!
Terry Fox Run
Our whole school went outside together to run for Terry Fox! The Kindergarten classes ran on the field and the older classes ran around the community. We all worked hard bringing in 'Toonies for Terry' and now we know our school raised over $3300! It is amazing!!
Orange Shirt Day
September 30th was Orange Shirt Day where we took time to talk about and remember the impact of residential schools on the First Nations Peoples. We took time to sit quietly and think on our sit spots and to be thankful that we get to go to a school where we feel safe. We read the story 'Sometimes I Feel like a Fox' and acted out the different Totem animals. When we went inside, we all created our own orange shirt to show that we are all different, creative, and special!
