Two Weeks in Kindergarten - January 16 - 27

Hi Families,

Since last week was a P.A Day, we have stories from the past two weeks at school to share with you!

Our New Classmates!
Ms. Boag wasn't here last Wednesday. When she came back, she brought 2 robots! One is an Ozobot and we decided to name him 'Cozmo'. We are learning that he moves on black lines and are making maps for him.

Nature Walk

This week we went to a new forest nearby.
We saw chickadee birds on a tree. Some were flying around and some were tweeting 'chicka dee-dee-dee'. We also saw a pretend campfire and different birdhouses in the forest. We also saw big houses and forts made out of wood!

Brass Quintet
We listened to the Quintet last week and got to ask questions at the end. The band had a trombone, a tuba, 2 trumpets, and a french horn. We really liked the part where the group used hoses and tubes and funnels to create new instruments. We liked the trombone because it made funny low noises and it had a slide.

Chinese New Year
We are learning about Chinese New Year celebrations and are excited to watch a dragon dance from another class. It is almost Chinese New Year and since it is 2017 it is the year of the Rooster! We learned that our Bluejays are born the year of the Rabbit, and our Chickadees are born the year of the Dragon! Some of us wore new and fancy clothes today to celebrate!

Shapes, Shapes, Shapes
We have been learning about 2D shapes, even the 'gons' like hexagons and octagons and dodecagons. We each have a new shape book.  Each day, we choose our own shape to draw and we write a story about that shape. We have also made different kinds of pictures using shapes.
We read a book called 'Shapes that Roll' and decided to try an experiment. We got a board and made a ramp and we pushed shapes down the ramp to see if they would slide or roll. The dice was fun to watch because it did a slide and a roll. The Kleenex box prism just slid down the ramp, and the bouncy ball sphere just rolled down the ramp.
