Hi Families,
Thank you to all families who have come in to meet Ms. Boag and Ms. Ancona and to families who have come to visit our Kindergarten class! On Tuesday we will be having our bus safety visit and that will only be the beginning of a very busy December!
Since last week we had a P.A. Day on Friday here are some stories from 2 weeks in Kindergarten.
Mother Earth Helpers
Our Bluejays have been hard at work taking care of Mother Earth. After reading a book we realized there are 3 important things to take care of when we are at school so we have made 3 teams - the water team, the litter team, and the recycling team. Here is some planning from each team so far. Stay tuned for more learning!
We were also asked to choose one Bluejay to be our class representative for Black Walnut's Team of Eco Leaders!
Patterns
Ms. Sun was with us all week and she is teaching us about patterns that repeat. We looked at colour patterns this week and tried to make our own.
Mystery Plant
We are still looking at and thinking about our mystery plant. We know it's not broccoli, or a tomato, or an apple tree. We do think it is a tree though but we just haven't figured out what kind.
Visits and Assembly
We had lots of visitors this week in our classroom. They were our parents visiting the chickadees! We also got to see some of our parents at the assembly this week! Ms. Sindhwani's class performed a song about peace.
Box City
Thank you for all the boxes! Our construction centre is turning into a box city! We have created houses, apartments, stores, a police station, and more!
Each time we add something to the city we make a plan. We draw out the building and how we want it to look and then we create the building from a box.
City Walk
Since we are making a city in the classroom, we decided to explore our own city on our nature walk. We saw signs, roads, mailboxes, and houses. We even found a very old house - it is over 100 years old! It is right around the corner from the school and we never knew!
Paper Airplanes
We like to make paper airplanes! We carefully fold our papers into interesting designs. We took them out into the hallway this week to throw them and see whose will go the furthest.....We discovered that they don't go very far right now. They fall to the floor. We'll have to keep trying next week!
This Blog is a space where the learning in our classroom can be celebrated! Our SK students (The Bluejays) will document their learning here by listing, planning, photographing, and writing to you about the highlights of our week, though the eyes of the students.

Our Week - November 12 - 16
Hi Families,
What a wonderful week we have had! Especially since snow has arrived!
Please remember that SK Parent Interviews and JK Observations are happening next week. The online schedule is available through Edsby. Times are booking up quickly so please log on as soon as you can. If you need a different time, please send me a note in your child's folder.
Our Ginkgo Tree
Our Ginkgo tree is up on display in our hallway. This week we added bluejay and chickadee birds to our tree. Ms. Ancona helped us make them!
Outdoor Learning
Early in the week we all made a new friend in the forest! We each chose a tree to be our tree buddy. We visited our trees again on Friday to see how they had changed. We had 20 teacher visitors come to work with us in the forest too! What a wonderful day we has with all that snow!!
Eco Club Art
The 3Rs Club was out in the hallway creating again. They made a forest and used rocks to make snowflakes! They called it the 'Snowy Eco Forest'. We liked looking at it through the window and then we got to help them tidy up by sorting all the materials into boxes.
Mystery Plant
We had a fantastic parent send in a mystery plant. We have been looking at it closely but we just don't know what it is! We made predictions and drawings and we are sure it is a plant....maybe a fruit plant. There is a big ball at the bottom and we think it is a seed! If you have any seeds like this at home - send them in!!!
Construction City
Teams have been busy working together at the construction centre to build cities and farms. We have a large city, a smaller city, and a small farm close by to feed the people. What amazing things we can make when we work together!
Mindful Yoga
Instead of our belly breathing song, we decided to do some yoga! We used cosmic yoga on youtube and felt so relaxed! A few friends even fell asleep afterwards!

Our Week - November 5- 9
Hi Families,
What a week! We had rain and sun and wind and snow! Please remember to send your child with winter clothing from now on so we're prepared. Boots, hats, snow pants, coats, and mittens please!
Next week is our big Nature Day with York Region's Quest Conference. Please be sure to send in your consent forms.
Here are some stories from the week.
Pumpkin Videos
We all got a chance this week to tell the story of the 'Five Little Pumpkins' in our own videos. We practised counting and told the story by ourselves. You can see our videos in our digital portfolios!
Happy Diwali
We learned about the celebration of Diwali this week and watched a story called 'Lights for Gita'. We celebrated like Gita in the story by making diya lanterns.
Ginkgo Tree
Each class in Black Walnut P.S is choosing a tree to represent their classroom. We chose the Ginkgo tree to be our tree house. We all worked together to make our giant tree and painted and folded paper to make its special fan leaves.
Eco Tree
The school's 3Rs club was busy this week in the front hallway. We watched them create a beautiful tree made from things they found on their nature walk. They called it the Eco Tree and we kept it safe for the week!
Nature Walk Leaf Buddies
On our own class nature walk we had to choose 2 leaves. We used those leaves to create art based on the book 'Look What I did With a Leaf'! We called our creations our leaf buddies. We made animals, plants, people, and fish and bugs too!
Helping Mother Earth
While we were out on our nature walk collecting leaves one student noticed a lot of litter! She told us all that Mother Earth is hurting and we need to help her! That student collected litter the whole nature walk and then made a team the next day at recess to collect litter from the SK yard into a bag.
New Blocks
Ms. Ancona put some new small blocks at our construction centre. We have had fun exploring their shape and size and we have made castles and houses with them.
Poppies for Peace
We learned about the word peace this week and made poppies. Peace can mean a lot of things so we each made a peace message to share with our poppies.
Snow!
It was very exciting to see snow today even though it quickly turned into rain! We watched the snow falling from our windows.
