Our Week - November 5- 9

Hi Families,

What a week! We had rain and sun and wind and snow! Please remember to send your child with winter clothing from now on so we're prepared. Boots, hats, snow pants, coats, and mittens please!

Next week is our big Nature Day with York Region's Quest Conference. Please be sure to send in your consent forms.

Here are some stories from the week.

Pumpkin Videos
We all got a chance this week to tell the story of the 'Five Little Pumpkins' in our own videos. We practised counting and told the story by ourselves. You can see our videos in our digital portfolios!

Happy Diwali
We learned about the celebration of Diwali this week and watched a story called 'Lights for Gita'. We celebrated like Gita in the story by making diya lanterns.

Ginkgo Tree
Each class in Black Walnut P.S is choosing a tree to represent their classroom. We chose the Ginkgo tree to be our tree house. We all worked together to make our giant tree and painted and folded paper to make its special fan leaves.

Eco Tree
The school's 3Rs club was busy this week in the front hallway. We watched them create a beautiful tree made from things they found on their nature walk. They called it the Eco Tree and we kept it safe for the week!

Nature Walk Leaf Buddies
On our own class nature walk we had to choose 2 leaves. We used those leaves to create art based on the book 'Look What I did With a Leaf'! We called our creations our leaf buddies. We made animals, plants, people, and fish and bugs too!

Helping Mother Earth
While we were out on our nature walk collecting leaves one student noticed a lot of litter! She told us all that Mother Earth is hurting and we need to help her! That student collected litter the whole nature walk and then made a team the next day at recess to collect litter from the SK yard into a bag.

New Blocks
Ms. Ancona put some new small blocks at our construction centre. We have had fun exploring their shape and size and we have made castles and houses with them.

Poppies for Peace
We learned about the word peace this week and made poppies. Peace can mean a lot of things so we each made a peace message to share with our poppies.

Snow!
It was very exciting to see snow today even though it quickly turned into rain! We watched the snow falling from our windows.
