Hi Families,
We had a wet week in Kindergarten with a lot of indoor recess time but we showed Ms.Boag and Ms. Ancona how kind and responsible we are! We took time to enjoy nature, got mail, made a book, continued subitizing, took care of animals, and celebrated our friends achievements and Halloween!
Here are some stories from the week.
Leaf Pile Jumping
We went out to the forest on Wednesday - even though it was raining - and had a great time! We read the story Leaf Jumpers and decided to make our own pile of leaves. It was really hard work! We had to keep scooping and piling a long time! When our pile was finished, we took turns jumping into the leaves - they were so crunchy! It was so much fun! We brought leaves back to our classroom and made our own nature rainbows in our nature journals.

Chicka Chicka Letter Exchange
We have been working for a number of weeks on a special letter - the letter P! This week we mailed our letter P art to 25 different schools across Canada as part of the Chicka Chicka Letter Exchange. We now get to wait and see what schools will mail us in return!
We already got our first letter. It was the letter H! We made predictions of what we thought would be inside our envelope. When we opened it we saw that the letter H was made into a horse and a house! This letter came all the way from Alberta!

Ratuki
We continued subitizing this week with a new game called Ratuki! We were introduced to a new way to make numbers called tally marks. We had to match number up to 5! Ms. Boag is teaching us a game to play with these cards.
Kinder Star
On Thursday, we had our first Kinder Star assembly. We will have one each month to celebrate student achievements. Each month 3 friends will get an award - Good Friend, Responsibility, and Try My Best. We also had 4 extra friends who got an award from the Markham Fair! We watched Mrs. Harcharik's class perform 2 songs and NEXT MONTH, we get to perform at the assembly!
Halloween
In the afternoon, we visited classes all around the school for our Kindergarten parade.

We all dressed up for Halloween and took photos of our costumes. We are going to make a class book and write about our special day!
After the parade, we got to eat some yummy and healthy snacks. We had fruit, vegetables, cheese, and crackers. Thank you for sending these yummy snacks! We also got to play Trick or Treat and put special loot bags into our back packs for home!
When our snacking was finished we joined the other Kindergarten classes for a dance party! It was exciting to see all our Kindergarten friends in their costumes.
We Scare Hunger
The W.A.T.CH club at Black Walnut counted and sorted our canned food donations today! They will be delivered to the Food Bank next week! Way to go Wolverines!
Worms
On Friday, we opened up our Vermi Composter. When we closed the composter at the end of September, we knew it was filled with newspaper, dried leaves, some food scraps, coffee grounds, and red wriggler worms. But when we looked inside today all we could find was our worms and dirt! Somehow the food is all gone and now there is dirt! We will have to investigate this some more!

Hi Families,
Here are some stories from our week.
Bus Safety
On Tuesday, we went to the big gym with all the primary classes for a bus safety presentation. We met a special new friend named Buster and he was a real bus (or maybe a robotic one)! He moved and talked and his lights turned on and off! He taught us about how to stay safe on the bus and when waiting to get on a bus. Did you know there are zones around the outside of the bus where the bus driver can't see you? It's true!
Take Me Outside Day
Wednesday was Take Me Outside Day and we spent almost the whole day outside! We walked to our favourite woodlot and saw lots of leaves falling. We even saw a mouse, squirrels, a chipmunk, snails, and a very fuzzy caterpillar! Here are some of the activities we did!
-Outdoor Yoga
We went onto the school field and found yoga stories on the fence. We stood in a circle and followed 3 yoga stories - Autumn Yoga, Thanksgiving Yoga, and Halloween Yoga.

-Nature Numbers
We visited the forest and found nature items like leaves, sticks, moss, rocks, and more! We sorted them into piles. We used different items to create numbers and we made it all the way to 20! We are going to make a class book of these numbers so stay tuned!

-Scavenger hunt
At the end of the day we went on an Autumn scavenger hunt. We had to look, listen, feel, and smell different items and then we had to collect things. We looked at leaves falling from a tree, listened to leaves crunching under our feet, smelled a cedar tree, and felt the bark on a maple tree. We worked with a partner to collect different items and put them in a paper bag.
Leaf Man
After Take Your Class Outside Day, we had a lot of left over nature items. We read the story Leaf Man and used these items to create our own characters. We made turtles, ladybugs, people, ducks, fish, and more! We wrote stories to go with these characters.
Restaurant Food Sorting
We all took a vote and decided that we will turn our Let's Pretend Centre into a Restaurant. We made signs for all of our food and dishes so that we can sort them when we tidy up. It also helps us to decide what to order when we can see all the examples.
Tiny Polka Dots
We are learning to subitize in Kindergarten which means looking at a set of objects and knowing the amound right away. We have been practising using dice and ten frames. On Friday, we learned the game Tiny Polka Dots. We each got a card with a number set and we had to find someone with the same number. Sometimes the numbers looked different - they might be dots, a number, a word, or fingers on a hand - and we still had to find a match!
Hi Families,
We are the Bluejays in Ms. Boag and Ms. Ancona's class and we are excited to share some stories from our first weeks back to school! Every Friday we will be writing stories about our adventures and learning in Kindergarten! Ms. Boag will also post important messages, dates, and reminders here.
Coming Up in Kindergarten

Here are some stories from our week:
Fire Alarm
On Wednesday we had our first fire drill. We practised leaving the classroom and lining up outside. The fire alarm is a loud noise but we all walked safely outside.
Centres We Love
There are so many places to work and play and learn in our classroom. Our favourites right now are the construction centre and the snack centre! At construction we create houses, ramps, roads, and towers and we are practicing taking turns, sharing materials, and tidying up when we are finished. At the snack centre we find our nametag to save our spot and then we go and wash our hands. After that, we get to eat our snacks! It is fun to talk to our friends here and to see all the different foods that we eat!
Popsicle Shop
We have opened a 'Popsicle Shop' in the Let's Pretend Centre. We create different popsicles using sticks and coloured foam and our friends come to visit. They tell us their order and need to give us some money coins before we give them a popsicle.
Making Art
We are artists in Kindergarten and we love making things. This week we created art using the first letter of our name. We also tried painting with tempera paint, water colour paint, and finger paint! Some of us made party hats with Ms. Ancona and we are going to enter them in the Markham Fair art competition!
Finger Painting
Finger painting is so much fun! We love to be messy! We got to choose our paint colour and paint a picture using our fingers and hands. We made swirls, lines, dots, and waves. Some of us chose one colour and some mixed colours. The paint was squishy and cold.
Brown Bear, Brown Bear
We read the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear this week and Ms. Boag brought out a felt board with all the pieces to the story! Now, we like to read the book with our friends and retell the story!
Nature Walk
We went on our first nature walk this week with Mrs. Darlow. We walked around the school field and looked for nature things to bring inside. We are using the leaves, grass, flowers, rocks, and feathers that we found to create pictures.
Dot Day
Friday was Dot Day to celebrate Peter Reynolds book 'The Dot'. We worked together to create our own dot masterpiece using different shaped lids.
