Our Week in Kindergarten January 18 - 22

Dear Families,

We are back and we have been busy! Here are some projects that we have been working on through the month of January.

Footprints and Winter fun!
We liked tobogganing this week. There is a small hill near our parking lot. We used red sleds. We also went on a nature walk and found bunny tracks and other footprints too!

Water Cup Challenge
We measured 16 cups in all. We used water to measure. Some cups looked small and some cups looked big. We measured small, medium, extra large, large, and extra small.

Our Map!
We wanted to know more about the world and the places that our friends, families, and teachers have been to. We have 53 countries on our list of where people at our school have been. When we get a new country, we find it on our map and put a sticker on it.
We will be asking our families soon!

Paw Patrol Station
Our Paw Patrol Station has a mural of Adventure Bay. We have dog treats if the pups are hungry and a flat screen to show the team where the danger is. We also have a tent for a dog house.
Each pup has a mask and a necklace to help us identify the pups. We finished Marshall's fire truck and we have his red fire hat too. We hope we can make a hat and vehicle for each pup.
We also made a Patrol Poster so everyone can learn the character names. We really like Ryder.

Construction Land

Construction Land is a little world we are making. Construction Land has a zoo, homes, a doctor's office, roads, and trains with train tracks. Next we need some cars.
We made the roads out of paper and to make it stick we put tape. We made the houses out of bricks and blocks. We labelled different places in Construction Land so that we can tell our friends what we did.
Construction Land even has a hide out! It is for playing hide and seek.

Love,
The Bluejays

PS - Stay tuned next week...A Puppet Show is coming soon!!

Our Week in Kindergarten November 30 - December 4

Dear Families,

Ms. Ancona added tubes and pipes to our Water Centre. We realized that the water rolls down and goes into the holes. We were trying to build a slide but the pieces kept falling over. We are going to try to make a slide that goes all the way across our water centre, but is more steady. We could build things under the slide to make it steady.

We are finished our classroom alphabet! Some letters were tricky make so we worked together and helped our friends. We liked making our alphabet because we learned so many ABC songs along the way. And we learned what vowels and consonants are! We really like our letter J (Jellybeans), G (Googly Eyes), W (Wheels), and Ms. Boag's X (X-Ray).

Last week our Bluejays were excited to show the classroom to their families. We showed them our Too Much Glue Story, the art on our Bulletin Boards, the McDonalds, and our Cubby Area.
This week, the Chickadees parents visited. We hope you had fun. We had fun playing and reading with our brothers and sisters, and being the teachers. Thank-You for Visiting! Come again Soon!

Yesterday we started making crowns and put stars and decorations on them. We made different crowns for different people - Princesses, Princes, Knights, Kings, and Queens! We want to learn what these people do and what they need and where they live. Next, we want to try to make costumes and maybe put on a play! We have named this story our 'Kingdom of Fantasy'! Stay tuned for more adventures.

Our Co-Created Alphabet

Co-Creating Our Classroom Alphabet

While learning about sorting in our classroom one student decided that we can sort the letters of the alphabet. We began with sorting the letter magnets by colour, and then our discussion deepened as we tried sorting by letter name, upper and lower case and eventually by vowels and consonants.

Over the next weeks, students in small groups were challenged to work together to sort 'mystery items' and try to identify the letters hiding inside each box.

Each student made a letter - with one left over for Ms. Boag! We displayed our letters                     over our word wall and best writing board.

Here is our completed alphabet!
Can you tell what each letter is made of?

Our Week in Kindergarten November 16-20

Dear Families,

We were very focused on our McDonalds Restaurant this week. We added many new things that McDonalds has and needs.

An Open and Closed sign to tell people when the store is closed so the workers can sleep, rest, have a break, and eat lunch.

Costumes that are called uniforms for  the Chefs and the Waiters and Waitresses so they don't get dirty and so we know who works there.

A big menu that shows people what food and drinks our McDonalds can make.

Little order papers so that the Waiters and Waitresses can take our orders and get the food ready for us.

Ketchup and Mustard for people to put on the bread or the french fries.

We read a good story Elephant and Piggie - I Will Take a Nap. Our Special Helper brought it in for us.
It was a funny story. Elephant had a dream that Piggie had a turnip head!!!
We are going to make puppets for the characters so that we can put on shows.
Maybe next week, we can read more Elephant and Piggie Books

Our classroom now has an 'Author Wall'. It is for books that the children in our class have written and illustrated. Next week, Bluejay families can come and visit to see our wall!

Our Week in Kindergarten November 9-13

Dear Families,

We have started a Kindergarten Band. We don't have a name yet, but we have been practicing and practicing. We have been making instrument plans and building our instruments at the art centre. More to come next week.

So far this year, we have had 4 Special Helpers for the week. Each week they bring a book from home to share with us and we've liked all of them.
We have read:
-The Day the Crayons Quit By: Drew Daywalt
-Pinkalicious By: Victoria Kann and Elizabeth Kann
-Boo! By: Robert Munsch
-Doors in the Air By: David Weale and Pierre Pratt

We have started to make a pretend McDonalds in our Let's Pretend centre. We got McDonalds cups and french fry containers. We sell hamburgers and french fries (But don't really eat them! They are only yellow sponges!)

We have started to make a classroom alphabet. We made an 'A'  with ants, a 'B' with buttons, a 'C' with cotton balls, and a 'D' with dinosaurs. We wonder what we'll make next! We have also listened to letter songs on youtube that taught us about vowels and consonants. Did you know that 'A' is a vowel?

Our Week in Kindergarten November 2 - November 6

Dear Families,
We are Back!

This week we were very busy.

A shoe drive has started at Black Walnut. If you have shoes that don't fit you anymore, you can put them in our shoe drive.

We got new paints for our art centre that we get to squirt out ourselves!

We have been building a lot too! Our friends made a very tall building, a fort, a house and a school that is practicing a fire drill.

We went on a nature walk to the forest. We saw a woodpecker and bugs and Bluejay girl caught a grasshopper for us! We all brought a leaf back to school and told a story about it. Today, we are going to figure out who found the smallest leaf and who found the biggest leaf!
